Jamaican Girls, We Support and Celebrate You

To every Jamaican girl child, teen and young woman, we support and celebrate your dignity, sovereignty and light on this International Day of the Girl Child, 11 October 2025.

Each of you, in your own way, is already living bright, staking your place, and stepping up to claim your freedom as new leaders, speakers, fighters and creators, wherever you are. We know you’re facing real crises all around that you didn’t choose. You’re living on the front lines, and applying your fierce intelligence, play and spirit to not just make a way, but to light the way.

WMW Jamaica and all our participants and partners in the project, “WE Talk for the Reduction of Gender Based Violence,” all of us see you. We recognize your fire and your challenge, and we send you our solidarity across the generations, pledging our support for what you need to be your fullest selves.

This week we’re sending you our heartfelt messages of encouragement, saying, “Hey Schoolgirl!”  We’re also sending tips, links and ways to help if you find yourself in trouble. There’s no need to stay silent, stay alone, or be still. Choosing to act is self love.

Look for our videos, letters and shout outs, because we want you to know the depths of your beauty, the power of your voice, and just how much you deserve to live safe and secure, free from judgement, harassment, deprivation and violence.

You are worthy, just as you are, and we will say it over and over, because it’s true. It’s real.

~~~~~~~~~
Today we are re-sending you a letter from WMW’s WE Talk Program Manager, Ruth Howard: Dear Schoolgirl… we’re sorry.
She wrote it last December, when we all were grieving the violation of one precious schoolgirl in particular. We wish her so much love and healing, as we do for all of you.
It’s your time to celebrate and shine.
